When David Klein invented the Jelly Belly in 1976, known as the ‘Rolls Royce of jelly beans’ for their wide array of interesting and unique flavors, they became an international sensation and an iconic piece of Americana. Four decades later, and having left the Jelly Belly company in 1980, Klein is again attempting to recreate the jelly bean with a line of CBD-infused jelly beans.
Klein announced the new jelly beans in an interview with Cannabis Aficionado, saying that he recently became aware of the benefits of CBD, “And I said to myself, ‘is anybody doing a jelly bean with CBD?’ I could not find any.”
His company, Spectrum Confections, is producing the CBD-infused jelly beans in 38 different flavors, including “Toasted marshmallow, pina colada, strawberry cheesecake . . . which is one of my favorites,” said. Klein. “Our mango tastes more like mango than mango does.” They’ll also come in sugar-free varieties, and although these are definitely candy, Klein says he is including some fruit juice in each bean. “We are trying to make it so that it can be as healthy as possible,” he said.
“The jelly bean is perfect for the proper dosage [of CBD],” Klein said, “we are putting 10 ml in each [bean]. If people want a small dose, they eat one. If they want 20 ml, they can eat two. They can decide what their proper dosage is.”
